Vintage Exceptional Mid 19th Century Jeweled, Brass & Mahogany Tantalus
Description
This wonderful vintage tantalus is English in origin & dates from the mid 19th century. It is designed by Hall & Company, 56 King Street, Manchester, England. The stylish unit has beautifully decorated dore’ brass hardware featuring scrolled etchings. This “strap” hardware is further embellished by huge cabochon Scotch agate gems. This elegant hardware complements the rich mahogany veneer that covers the wooden tantalus. A key lock lid opens to reveal a blue velvet interior with sectioned compartments holding three crystal decanters & a gold plate serving tray. Upon opening the “doors”, one finds eight etched cordials positioned within their individual gold plate holders. The crystal decanters are marred with very few minor nicks here & there. None of which detract from their overall appearance. The cordials are perfect. The locking mechanism works w/o exception. The exterior mahogany veneer shows age lines.
