Porcelain Mantel Clock
I. Marchand signed this porcelain mantel clock. Elaborate hand painted repousse’ rocco style scrolls decorate and outline the body of this vintage 19th century porcelain. The cream colored body of the clock is enhanced with hues of lavender, mauve, pink and purple. Swirling ribbons also provide accents throughout. This elegant timepiece was designed exclusively for A. Stowell & Co. of Boston as is indicated on the flower garland decorated white enamel dial. The hand painted panel beneath the clock portrays a gentleman on bended knee presenting a coy young woman with a bouquet of flowers. A small panel above the clock features a pair of love birds. The back of the clock has another painted panel and upon opening the door, one finds a mounted brass movement that bears an embossed emblem reading ” Medalle de Bronze L. Marte de ce 2557
